I think that dreams really do involve everything from in a spiritual view and a medical type of view for how our mind and bodies react to dreams. I myself find mean ing that dreams actually help to find out if or what you should do in order to make yourself of happier by finding out what you really feel or what you are seeking out in life. Exactly how in The Alchemist, I think that Santiago had a good descision because he may have given up many things or went through things that people wouldn't want to go through, but now he has found more meaning in life - a search for something more than just traveling around with his animals and follow what he wants the most. I believe this is true because I have truly written down and found that it's very interesting of the images.
In one of my reams, I had a great feeling of my own with bat wings and flight.
Dream interpretation Demon/Demons/Monster/Devil/Zombie
The Freudian view is that demons represent repressed infantile sexual feelings, likely incestuous ones toward out parents. For Jungians, they represent a projected negative aspect of the anima or animus, someone whom you perceive as a threat and are attempting, or wish, to avoid, when, in fact, that power or energy is also a part of you.
The monster usually represents the parts of your urges and emotions you have repressed or do not feel in control of. The angers or urges may even feel to us as if they re strong enough to control us, so we represent them as an external force pushing us to some sort of evil. In each of us there is the potential for creativity or destruction. This is especially noticeable in connection with fears, such as fear of illness. Such a fear, if based on imagination rather than a real cause, can still cause illness. In this sense our mind can turn against us. This enemy our undirected fear may be pictured as the devil or an evil entity.
Dream interpretation Flying
For most of us, flying dream mean out body rises from the earth, but flying can also be symbolized by being inside flying vehicles, in which case you are usually not flying under your own power. In the Freudian view, flying represents exhibitionists wishes or tendencies; sexual pleasure; the desire to recapture childhood experiences of being rocked or of swinging. For Jungians, flying represents having a raised consciousness; seeing or need a new perspective. Flying can represent a false sense of inflation; acting in a manner not true to yourself; not being grounded, hence split in your energy or intentions. Perhaps you need to rise above it all.
If your dream body is that of a young boy or girl, it may represent the desire to remain a child and not face responsibilities. If flying in outer space, it may signal you are developing or need to develop the ability to look at yourself in relationship to the world world, or the entire universe. You may be expanding your spiritual life, since flying can also represent a union of spirit or matter.
Consider the east of difficulty with which you fly, what you see while flying, and what you do. What do you gain by adopting or maintain this perspective? Do not forget to look down and see what you are flying over.
Dream interpretation Teacher, Professor
The need for advice or new learning, seeking a new patch. In Jungian terms, the appearance of a teacher may signify the archetype of the Wise Old Man, the spirit who fills in information you need for the next step in your development.
Dream interpretation Rose
Rose in a dream is symbol of the Self. It is a common symbol in Western esoteric traditions. The rose in an enclosed garden is similar to the Grail quest, to the search for paradise and wholeness.
In Christian symbolism, the rose is the supreme symbol of Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Roses are related to love or romance.
Garden
How does your garden grow? If flowering and well cared for, it may symbolize fertility; creativity; ideas you are cultivating; the flourishing of your inner life. If not, it may represent an aspect of yourself that needs to be cultivated or fertilized or tended to. What do you need to weed out?
A formal garden may symbolize order or symmetry; following the rules. If square or round, it may symbolize a mandala, hence the blossoming of the Self. A walled garden may symbolize private parts of yourself that you are keeping secret or protecting from others. Especially in the dreams of pubescent girls, a small mound or Hill in the garden may symbolize the mons veneris, the area where public hair grows.
Gardens also symbolize balance or harmony; the divine order (to garden is to get in touch with the spirit of the land); the union of the divine and the material; mastery over nature, hence over instincts. Consider your personal symbolism of the plants growing in the garden for additional clues.
It is common for pregnant women to dream of incredibly fertile gardens with exotic or richly blooming flowers and luscious fruits, all symbolizing the body’s creative powers during this time.
Murder, Murder, Kill, Killer
If you are actually witnessed a murder your dream may be a replay for healing purposes and may recur a number of times, as in post traumatic stress dreams.
Otherwise it may represent deep seated feelings of anger or rage toward someone symbolized by the victim. Consider that the victim may represent some aspect of yourself you want to destroy or perhaps that you feel is being destroyed by someone else.
See killer
Another dream I was driving and then we jumped out of the car before the car fell into the bridge and we ended up pulling it back together to make it stay on the road, but then when I drove again, we jumped out again and it fell in while my mom was still holding onto it, and she fell into the deep dark brown waters of the river, and I became guilty-scared.
Car, Automobile
Often your body, or your way of moving through life approaching situations, although it can also represent someone else. It may be a message to shift gears. It you are in the backseat of the car, are you being backseat driver, or are you taking a backseat to someone else? Are you directing your life or just going along with someone else’s ideas and lead? Perhaps the dream is reminding you not to let yourself be taken for a ride.
Interpretation of car in your dream requires you to consider the make of the car and what that particular brand means to you(safety, luxury, freedom)? A car that needs repair, lacks horsepower (energy), runs out of gas, or malfunctions may represent a health problem and could be signaling that it is time to stop ignoring some symptom and see your doctor. It can also signal that you need to turn your energies or efforts elsewhere for more success. A stolen car may indicate that some person or situation is robbing you of energy, ha distracted you, or is preventing you from attending to long range goals.
Bridge
Going under a bridge suggests delving into unconscious material; a need or fear of dealing with instinctual material. Crossing a bridge over water may be a way to avoid unconscious material or may symbolize using the intellect to arrive at a decision or behavior; sexual intercourse. A bridge can symbolize a need or willingness to: overcome obstacles; make a connection between one point or idea and another; make a transition between two conditions in your life (unite the past and present).
It can symbolize a crossroads or a decision you need to make. A collapsing bridge may represent repressed feelings, or can indicate that your psyche took some incident more seriously than you did consciously.
Consider how easy or difficult it is to cross the bridge and its condition (rocky or stable, small or narrow). Are you closing off alternatives you may need in the future (burning bridges behind you). Or are you avoiding a decision, waiting to cross a bridge.
(I had this dream after the car accident on the 12/20/08 Saturday)
A rainbow is a common symbol for bridging heaven and earth. Since a dream itself is a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, a bridge, or activity on the bridge, may symbolize your dreaming or dreamwork process.
Mother
Your personal mother and any psychological or unfinished issues related to her; archetypal images buried when we are born, hence, the collective unconscious; the anima of a male dreamer; the place of origin, paradise; the womb.
When we dream of mother during physical illness she can represent our basic physiological or somatic functions, and therefore be a message from our psyche about the nature or progress of the disease. She can also represent the need for comfort, nurturance, or nursing as in care-taking or drinking at breast.

Class Name: Period 2 9th Grade Honors English
Teacher: Marissa Crabtree
Location: Room 646
All Homework | Printer Friendly |
Due: Tomorrow
Step 1: Research dreams by visiting at least 3 websites of different kinds that discuss or give information on dreams. The three types of websites are 1) Medical, 2) Dream theory, 3) Psychology
Here are some suggested websites:
www.webmd.com (1)
www.dreamota.com (2)
www.dreammoods.com (2)
www.mythsdreamssymbols.com (2 and 3) http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/index.php?term=20071029-000003 (fascinating article about why we dreams) (3)
www.psychologytoday.com (3)
www.dreamgate.com (2 and 3)
Step 2: Decide what you think about dreams and their importance. In The Alchemist, they certainly play a certain role in helping Santiago decide what to do. Do you think Santiago was wise in his decision to follow a dream that came to him at night? Would you ever do the same thing? Do you think dream interpretation is true or is it just made up stuff? Why?
Step 3: On your blog, add a post in which you write about what you think about dreams. You can answer the above questions, write a dream log of what you have dreamt the last few nights, or describe the most powerful dream you've ever had. Or, you can do all three. Make sure the post is at least 300 words and cites 2-3 specific pieces of information you found during your research.
Step 4: Join the "dream" discussion on my blog by posting a comment to today's post. Read my post, what other students have read, and respond with your own opinion on the topic. If you post under a nickname, make sure to include your name in your comment so I know to give you credit.

Dreamy Idealist
Dreamy Idealist (DI)
(Just visiting? Take the free personality test and determine your iPersonic type!)
Dreamy Idealists are very cautious and therefore often appear shy and reserved to others. They share their rich emotional life and their passionate convictions with very few people. But one would be very much mistaken to judge them to be cool and reserved. They have a pronounced inner system of values and clear, honourable principles for which they are willing to sacrifice a great deal. Joan of Arc or Sir Galahad would have been good examples of this personality type. Dreamy Idealists are always at great pains to improve the world. They can be very considerate towards others and do a lot to support them and stand up for them. They are interested in their fellow beings, attentive and generous towards them. Once their enthusiasm for an issue or person is aroused, they can become tireless fighters.
For Dreamy Idealists, practical things are not really so important. They only busy themselves with mundane everyday demands when absolutely necessary. They tend to live according to the motto “the genius controls the chaos” - which is normally the case so that they often have a very successful academic career. They are less interested in details; they prefer to look at something as a whole. This means that they still have a good overview even when things start to become hectic. However, as a result, it can occasionally happen that Dreamy Idealists overlook something important. As they are very peace-loving, they tend not to openly show their dissatisfaction or annoyance but to bottle it up. Assertiveness is not one of their strong points; they hate conflicts and competition. Dreamy Idealists prefer to motivate others with their amicable and enthusiastic nature. Whoever has them as superior will never have to complain about not being given enough praise.

As at work, Dreamy Idealists are helpful and loyal friends and partners, persons of integrity. Obligations are absolutely sacred to them. The feelings of others are important to them and they love making other people happy. They are satisfied with just a small circle of friends; their need for social contact is not very marked as they also need a lot of time to themselves. Superfluous small talk is not their thing. If one wishes to be friends with them or have a relationship with them, one would have to share their world of thought and be willing to participate in profound discussions. If you manage that you will be rewarded with an exceptionally intensive, rich partnership. Due to their high demands on themselves and others, this personality type tends however to sometimes overload the relationship with romantic and idealistic ideas to such an extent that the partner feels overtaxed or inferior. Dreamy Idealists do not fall in love head over heels but when they do fall in love they want this to be a great, eternal love.

(Just visiting? Take the free personality test and determine your iPersonic type!)
As a Dreamy Idealist you are one of the introverted personality types. Therefore you prefer a quiet work environment where you can intensively deal with your responsibilities and are not disturbed by too many people and repeated distractions. You need a lot of time to dwell on your thoughts, to put them into words, and let your ideas take shape.
You are grateful for a certain measure of order and structure because they secure the time to achieve this so you can deal with one task after the other and not have to juggle a number of responsibilities at once - you don’t like that because it is important to you to deal with things thoroughly. Your capability to concentrate is unusually great and very often you become engrossed in something and forget everything around you - even to eat and drink.
Nevertheless, because you are very adaptable, congenial and interested in harmony and cooperation, you enjoy working together with others. A neighborhood that requires the ability to assert yourself and where direct confrontations are the order of the day is not your optimal environment. In order to permit you to fully develop your ability you need an environment that is as stress free as possible. If you can’t get that you soon suffer, because you take critique and negative feedback very personally.

(Just visiting? Take the free personality test and determine your iPersonic type!)
Fantasies, dreams, and ideals, play an important role in your life. In your heart, you carry visions of a better world where the wolf plays with the lamb, and the creeks carry milk and honey. Naturally, this also applies to the subject of love. You are absolutely convinced that your perfect other half with whom you can merge into the perfect oneness, exists somewhere in this world. You are obviously aware that this extraordinary gift won’t just land in your lap, but you are willing to wait for a long time and sacrifice a lot, if necessary, to reach this vital goal. “Per aspera ad astra,” or “Through the night to the light,” is your motto.
As all Idealists, you tend to raise your chosen partner up on a sky-high pedestal - especially at the beginning of a relationship. Essentially, you have excellent insight into human nature but when you are in love, you obviously throw all of that out the window. That can be the only explanation why you aren’t able to see even the smallest blemish on this person. “Idealizing” does not even begin to describe this process, „idolizing“ is probably closer to the truth. All the way up there on that pedestal, your partner is probably already getting dizzy and asking him/herself what he/she has done to deserve this unconditional adoration in the first place. But then, who would not like to see him-/herself mirrored as the perfect person in the eyes of a loving other?
On the other hand, it is a real challenge to meet your ideal of love and romance in everyday life. Sooner or later, you are going to be disappointed to find out that you haven’t gotten a hold of an angel nor a superman, but just a normal person with all the inherent strengths and weaknesses. Now the question is, can you love your partner as he/she is and not as you would like for him/her to be?
